In memory of
Kurt Stewart Hansen
The original “King Llama.”
Kurt founded our Llama playgroup in 2008 alongside Brandon, Will Helms, and Derek Fraro. Llama Night is part of that continuing tradition: a shared set of cards, a place at the table, and people making time to play.
His family remembered someone with many interests and a generous sense of humor. Their affectionate list of titles included “King Llama” alongside his love of Magic: The Gathering, programming, music, and the outdoors. Family came first. Kurt died on September 22, 2013, at age 51. His family’s full remembrance is preserved in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution obituary.
A University of Georgia pharmacy graduate, he worked as a pharmacist in Loganville and helped establish his Rotary club’s foundation. He also served on the Walton County Planning Commission, as Patch’s remembrance records. Games were one part of a life full of family, creativity, and community.
Here, we remember him by keeping the table open: welcoming another player, sharing what we know, and making room for the next game.
His favorite saying in the world was “Kill Will.” He’d be glad to know our players are still following his instructions.
Meet Kurt, your deck buddy
Our deck-building llama is named in his honor. When Kurt helps you find a card or think through a deck, his name is a small reminder of the person who started this tradition.
